Ôhe feast of sardine
The locals’ life was linked to the sea, so there are also events that show off its wealth, such as fish, which is an important product for the diet but also for the economy of the household.
At the feast of sardine, the smell of the grilled fish matches the saltiness of the sea, while the revelers and the open hearted locals constantly fill their glasses with ouzo of Chios .
A scene that you will witness when you are in Lagada is the moment the caique returns from fishing. Far away, against the background of Oinoussae, you will see a swarm of sea-gulls which try to ‘profit’ if the fishermen leave something behind.
The caiques, which are less nowadays than the old days, return to the port where the locals go to buy fresh fish.
